Is it a coffee? Is it a dessert? Is it both at the same time? Sometimes some recipes or preparations become fashionable and are on everyone’s lips. That is the recent case of Café Dalgona, and of course, we have to echo its success.

There are two possibilities before reading this recipe: either you are looking on the Internet for how Dalgona coffee is made, and that is why you have come to our page, or you have never heard of it in your life, and you are reading this by chance. We assure you that, whatever your case is, the chances of ending up making it at home after reading are very high. You don’t believe it? Well, go on, keep reading.

What is Dalgona or sparkling coffee?

It is basically a coffee-based drink, cold and frothy. And we say “drink”, and not directly “coffee” because it is not really a style of coffee (it is not infused, nor filtered, it is used as another ingredient in the recipe) but rather a soft drink.


Do you know where Dalgona coffee is from? From Korea, no less. Although in recent years, it has become so popular that it is now almost a worldwide recipe, with dozens of variants all over the world.

Its main characteristic is, on the one hand, the cream or foam, which is the first thing that catches your eye when you see it in a photo, and on the other hand, the enormous speed with which it is prepared. Depending on the appliances you have at home, preparing the recipe for Dalgona coffee will not take you more than 4-5 minutes.

Ingredients for the Dalgona coffee recipe (easy, easy)

To make the Dalgona coffee recipe for two people, you only need the following:

  • 2 spoonfuls or sachets of instant coffee.
  • 2 spoonfuls of sugar.
  • 2 spoonfuls of cold water (you can add ice cubes later, if you prefer).
  • 2 cups of milk.

As you can see, you need approximately one spoonful of each ingredient per person. The trick to making a perfect Dalgona coffee is to always mix each ingredient in equal parts. If you start doing experiments on your own, the result will not be the same.

Can you make Dalgona coffee with ground coffee?

Well, the original recipe for Dalgona coffee is made with soluble or instant coffee, as we have already seen, but if you want, you can use ground coffee. However, we cannot guarantee that the result will be exactly the same.

How Dalgona coffee is made step by step

The time needed: 6 minutes.

And here we are going to tell you how to prepare the Dalgona sparkling coffee. It can’t get any faster than this.

1. Mix and beat the coffee, sugar and water

The first step is to get the cream or foam so characteristic of this recipe. To do this, you take equal parts of water, sugar and coffee, and beat it until you get this heavenly texture. You can do it by hand, with a mixer, with a food processor; it’s up to you.

2. Take a long glass and fill it with cold milk up to 3/4 of its capacity

Some people also add ice cubes or even prefer warm milk. This is already to taste, but originally it is made with fresh milk.

3. Make the coffee: the cream is served on top of the milk

If you want to take a picture of it to upload to Instagram, we advise you to add the coffee cream carefully and slowly. If you do it raw, your fresh Dalgona coffee will be just as good but much less photogenic.

If you can’t make Dalgona coffee with a blender, you can use hand sticks or a spoon. The aim, in any case, is to achieve a very foamy, almost creamy texture.

As you can see, the basic Dalgona coffee recipe is easy. However, it does not end here. One of the most interesting features of this preparation is that you can decorate it with any topping you like: biscuits, chocolate, cocoa powder, nuts, cinnamon, strawberry Dalgona coffee – no two are the same!

The Dalgona recipe is highly customizable, but one of its most popular varieties is undoubtedly the Dalgona coffee with cocoa. Apart from decorating it with cocoa powder, chocolate chips, shavings, or your favourite chocolate topping (some people even put biscuits in it), you can add a dash of syrup (chocolate, of course) on top.

Be careful: don’t overdo it either, because you can spoil the cream and then it would stop being a Dalgona coffee recipe and become a mixture of things.

The Dalgona Coffee Recipe in the Thermomix

As you have seen, the recipe for Dalgona coffee from Korea is really simple and fast. But of course, if you use your Thermomix instead of a conventional blender, the process becomes almost instantaneous.

To do this, you must follow these steps:

  • Place the butterfly inside the blades.
  • Add 2 teaspoons of instant or soluble coffee, 20 grams of water and 20 grams of sugar.
  • Program 3 minutes, 37ºC, speed 3.5

With all this, you will prepare the characteristic cream. Then pour the cream into a glass of cold milk (I fill up to about three-quarters of the glass, although this is to everyone’s taste). The temperature of the milk is also to your taste; some even add ice to the mixture. And, of course, finish your recipe by adding the toppings or decorations you like best.

NOTE: The quantities are approximate for one person. If you want to make more, multiply by the number of guests, but respect the times and speeds indicated.

How many calories does Dalgona coffee have?

A cup of Dalgona coffee with the quantities we have specified in our recipe adds up to around 100 calories.

To reduce this amount, you can always resort to tricks such as making your Dalgona coffee with stevia (replacing sugar), using skimmed milk (although it will be more complicated than getting the creamy texture), or being more prudent with toppings, which is often where we go overboard.

In any case, Dalgona coffee without sugar is the fastest and safest option if you want to enjoy this delicacy with few calories.
