Today we are going to talk about one of those items that should be on the shelves and display cabinets of any good tea lover: teapots with cup included.
These are sets of individual teapots and teacups (optionally, they can also have a saucer) that are decorated to match and in which the teapot is integrated into the cup as if it were a single piece. In other words, they take up very little space when not in use.
For this reason, as well as being aesthetically pleasing, teapots with built-in cups are very practical for everyday use.
As far as their usefulness is concerned, they serve more or less the same purpose as filter coffee cups, which we have already talked about on this website. But there is no doubt that these small teapots with cup and saucers are a more eye-catching solution with a better presentation for visitors or guests. And if you accompany the service with a little porcelain jug for the milk, then you’ve got it made.
Where do they sell teapots with a cup included? You can usually find them in shops specialising in herbal teas, as well as in bazaars or gift shops (less common). If you buy your teapot with a cup and saucer on Amazon, you will have access to a wider variety of models and decorative styles. Here are some examples:
What is included in a teapot set with a built-in mug?
It may seem like a commonplace question, but it is not. Teapots with a built-in cup are sometimes presented with just these two pieces, but we can also find teapot sets with a cup and saucer. In other words, three pieces.
The cup is a normal teacup but with a wide mouth, which can hold the teapot when we put it on top.
The top part of the set is the teapot, which must have its corresponding lid and pouring spout to serve the tea in the cup, as well as fitting perfectly over the cup.
The fact that it includes the plate (three pieces) or does not include it (two pieces) is merely decorative because, in reality, the infusion can be left in the teapot, and it will not stain the table. But there are always users who prefer to have the complete set with its saucer. It is a matter of taste.
Teapot sets with built-in cups, therefore, have several defining characteristics:
- They are individual: that is, each guest can prepare their own tea and pour it into their own cup. They are ideal for serving at the table at gatherings of several people, together with a tea box offering a selection of different infusions.
- They can have two or three pieces, depending on whether or not they include a saucer.
- These teapots with cup and saucer are usually made of ceramic or porcelain.
- The teapot usually has a capacity of 0.6 litres and the cup is usually a standard size (0.33 litres).
Teapots with vintage cups
Vintage style teapots with cups are the most common style group for these items, especially when it comes to floral or oriental decorations.
At the other extreme, it is more difficult to find teapots with a “modern” cup or with a more innovative style. The most common, if we want to opt for something less classic, would be to opt for a completely plain coloured model, like this one:
Teapots with porcelain cups
Porcelain is always a more refined material than ceramic. It is true that it is also more delicate, but if you are looking for a “good” teapot and cup set, it makes sense to opt for this material.
As you can see, the designs of these individual tea sets do not necessarily have to be classic, as the use of porcelain might suggest.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland teapot and mug sets
Traditionally, this type of individual teapot and mug sets have always been associated with this Disney film due to the prominence of these animated utensils in Lewis Carroll’s brilliant story.
And as you can see, there are many examples of Alice teapots with cup included that we can find on Amazon.
