How to make the coffee flan step by step (Preparation)? To prepare your homemade coffee flan, the only thing you need, apart from having the ingredients ready, is to remember to put the oven on a little earlier. So first we must preheat the oven to 200 ºC with heat from above and below. We will use a bain-marie inside the oven, so it is a good idea to prepare it before. We start: in a medium pot we heat the sugar at medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for 5 to 7 minutes or until the sugar dissolves and it turns into a brown candy. Then quickly place it in the bottom of our 22 cm diameter round mould, and turn the mould over so that the caramel settles on the whole surface, and also on the walls. This is important not only to give the coffee flan flavour, but also to prevent it from sticking. Then, in a large and wide container, we mix the condensed milk, the eggs, the evaporated milk and the instant coffee. We beat everything by hand (with the old-fashioned whipping sticks) until we have a smooth, lump-free mixture with all the ingredients well integrated. NOTE: There is no consensus on whether the recipe for homemade coffee flan should be completely smooth (the homogeneous flan) or with small holes, but in general terms, the better the mixture, the better the result. If we find it difficult to beat everything, we can use the help of an electric mixer or a blender. It is important to mix the ingredients well in order to cook the coffee flan successfully. Pour the content into the previously caramelized mould and cover the surface with aluminium foil. Now place the mould in a bowl or a deep tray and add water to it, filling it to a depth of approximately 3 cm. Bake in a bain-marie for 55-65 minutes or until a knife is inserted in the centre and it comes out clean. Remove the flan from the oven and leave it to cool on a rack. Now we have our homemade coffee flan ready, but it is not time to eat it yet. Hold on for a while. The last step is to put it in the fridge, not only so that it is fresh but also so that it curdles and becomes homogeneous. It is advisable to keep it in the fridge for at least 4 or 5 hours, but, if you can organise it, it is best to leave it overnight. That is, you make the recipe for the coffee flan in the afternoon or evening, and eat the flan the next day. To serve your easy coffee flan, pass a small spatula around the edge of the mould. Invert the mould on top of a plate and shake it a little to make the flan fall out - be careful not to break it! Coffee and chocolate flan This delicious homemade coffee and chocolate flan is another recommendation we cannot fail to give you, as it is an excellent variation on the original recipe. Here we go with the ingredients: Ingredients for making coffee and chocolate flan • 600 ml of whole milk. • 200 ml liquid cream. • 60 g white sugar (this will depend on the sweetness we want to give it and how we decide to prepare coffee and chocolate flan to our liking). • 40 g of cocoa powder. • 1 spoonful of soluble coffee. • Liquid caramel (to taste). We will obtain 8 portions of coffee and chocolate flan with these amounts. Steps to prepare coffee and chocolate flan First we pour the liquid caramel on the individual flanners, moving it so that it covers the bottom and the walls well. This step is the same as in the previous recipes, and is important for the coffee flan to be perfect. Then, in a container with cold water, we put the 8 gelatine leaves for five minutes to hydrate them. If you have worked with gelatine before, you will know how this works. Put the milk, cream, sugar, cocoa and two teaspoons of coffee in a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir with a few manual sticks until we get a homogeneous mixture and bring it to a boil. After 5 minutes, when you see that the gelatine leaves are well hydrated, drain them and put them in a container. Add a few spoonfuls of the previous mixture to the container and stir until it dissolves completely. Add it to the pot with the rest of the mixture. Stir for a couple of minutes and remove from the heat. Pass the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any lumps, and finally let everything harden for a few minutes at room temperature. Then we spread the mixture on the flanners and cover them with transparent film (this detail is essential, so that they do not catch any strange smells or aromas). Finally, you know: put your flans in the fridge for at least 6 hours. If it can be all night, so much the better. Tips for making coffee flan easy • TIP 1: The coffee flan should be covered with cling film to prevent it from crusting and to prevent it from taking on an odour. • TIP 2: To make it easier to remove the mould, put the flan in a container with warm water for a few seconds. Finally, there is no more to do. The only thing left to do is to remove the coffee flan from the mould on a dessert plate, decorate it to your liking and enjoy it.
