Krups Nespresso XN6008 Capsule Machine Expert, Thermoblock Heating System, 19 Bar, Black Without...
Advanced settings: 4 speciality coffee (Ristretto, Espresso, Lungo, Americano); Hot water function

Today we are introducing the Nespresso Expert, a machine manufactured by Krups (hence its nomenclature: Krups XN6008) and which has as its greatest credentials the possibility of customising each coffee to the user’s taste, modifying its volume (according to 4 predefined sizes, instead of the usual 2) and also its temperature. We will discuss these functions in detail later on.

Another feature that attracts attention to this Nespresso Expert is undoubtedly its design.

The panels have been reduced to a minimum and the profile of the coffee machine is completely flat (we can stick it to the wall without any problem). This makes it very easy to install in kitchens or small rooms, although it is not a compact or small machine.

The Expert retains the usual 19 bar pressure of all Nespresso coffee machines, and also incorporates the innovative connectivity features that the Nestlé firm already inaugurated with its Nespresso Prodigio. This means that we can download the app to our mobile phone, and control our coffee machine from the phone as if we were in front of it.

What do you want to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee when you get home? Well, make sure you leave a capsule in the dispenser and a cup under the spout, and before you get to the lift or get out of your car, turn on your mobile and tell the coffee maker to make it for you. It’s that easy. When you enter the door, you will have a magnificent steaming espresso waiting for you in the kitchen. Sounds good.

Nespresso Expert: Personalise your coffee!

As we have already said, the most interesting part of this Nespresso Expert is the customisation of the drinks. In the picture below, we see a close-up of the control panel of this Nespresso Expert coffee machine, where we see the brewing group with the coffee spout (left), the beverage size dial (centre) and the temperature dial (right).

This Nespresso Expert has a choice of up to four different coffee sizes, which are pre-set on the machine itself. Most Nespresso coffee machines allow you to choose two beverage sizes (short espresso and long espresso), but the Expert also adds one underneath (the ristretto) and a much longer one (the American coffee).

With these four options, every user can obtain a coffee that is adapted to his or her taste or to the preparation that he or she wants to make later. By the way, the fifth selection on this dial (the one with the water drop drawn on it) is for hot water service. It is ideal if you want to prepare some infusions at the moment.

The dial on the right allows you to choose the coffee outlet temperature, according to three predefined levels: normal, hot and very hot.

A zenithal view of the coffee machine sheds more light on some interesting details of the design of the machine. For example, we see how the pod dispenser has been “camouflaged” with a metal finish plate (the one next to the Nespresso logo). This plate slides to the right and left to reveal the hole through which we insert the Grand Crus into the machine.

On the right-hand side, you will find the main start-up button for the Nespresso Expert. It has a small red indicator light, and will be the only button we need to press once we have determined all the options for customising our coffee.

As you can see, the (large) water tank is completely cylindrical and is located to the right of the main body of the coffee machine. It is not, on this occasion, integrated into the original housing, but is shown as a separate piece. This makes access to it (for cleaning, refilling or simply removing it) much more convenient:

Nespresso Expert & Milk: With Aeroccino included

We cannot overlook a version of this Expert, which includes the Nespresso milk frother. They have named it the Nespresso Expert&Milk. This is a formula that Nespresso has already used in other models, and it offers the user the possibility of getting this interesting – but expensive – accessory for a slightly lower price than if purchased separately.

The qualities of the machine are exactly the same as those already mentioned in this review. The only thing that changes is the inclusion of the Aeroccino together with the Expert coffee machine.

With Aeroccino for the preparation of milk foam; You can easily manage recipes with the app and also store your own recipes.

Nespresso Expert: General features

  • 19 bar pressure pump.
  • Water tank of 1.2 litres capacity. Transparent and removable. At all times we can know how much water is left in it, without having to move the coffee maker.
  • Tactile and backlit selection dials.
  • Automatic switch-off function to save energy.
  • Customisation of the size of the drink (4 pre-set options: ristretto, espresso, lungo and americano).
  • Customization of the coffee outlet temperature (3 levels by default).
  • Hot water service.
  • Connectivity: you can operate the coffee machine from your mobile phone.
  • The tray where the cups are placed can be adjusted in height.
  • Dimensions: 22 x 38 x 28 cms.
  • Power consumption: 1250 watts.

Advantages of the Nespresso Expert

  • Naturally, the best thing about this coffee maker is the possibility of customising the size and temperature of the coffee with complete freedom.
  • The size of the water tank, 1.2 litres, is quite generous for what you often see in other Nespresso coffee machines.
  • The possibility of connecting it to your mobile phone, via the Nespresso app, and operating it from there.
  • The touch and softness of the dials – touches, it’s worth the redundancy – of selection.
  • The possibility of serving only hot water.

Disadvantages of the Nespresso Expert

  • Progress in comparison with other Nespresso coffee machines is evident, but the price increase has been in line with this. This is certainly a prohibitive machine for certain pockets.
  • As is often the case, the Nespresso Expert&Milk version does not offer such a substantial discount on the original price of the Aeroccino that it is really worth buying if not for real and continuous use of the frothing machine.

Nespresso Expert: Videos

In the audiovisual section of the review, we would first like to show you an instructive video from Nespresso about the first steps and configuration of this Nespresso Expert:

Why buy a Nespresso Expert?

Nespresso is already a firm with a certain elitist approach, which directs all its products towards a select public. This Nespresso Expert model can be placed within the Nespresso premium range, which means that we can make a double composition of place:

On the one hand, it is clear that this is a superior coffee machine to almost everything that exists right now (end of 2016) in the home capsule segment.

But on the other hand, it is also clear that the price of a Nespresso Expert is not affordable for every household and does not match the needs of a medium profile user.

So the final assessment depends solely on you, and above all, on your budget.

Within the same brand, the Nespresso Prodigio and Lattissima are also very good, and are cheaper than this Expert. And if you want to know about other high-end pod coffee maker alternatives, you can always take a look at other brands. The Dolce Gusto Movenza, Illy X1 Trio or Senseo Latte Duo models are the best.
