Nespresso Essenza Mini: Range of Colours and Models

Let’s get to the point: The Nespresso Essenza is the most basic coffee machine in the Nespresso range. If you want to enjoy the excellent coffee of these capsules but also want to take care of your pocket, this must be, without a doubt, your option.

Its price is around 80 Pounds (you can find offers even for 50 or 60 Pounds, please check the purchase links below), but as it is an ancient coffee maker, it is possible to find some juicy second-hand offers.

Buying a second-hand Nespresso Essenza is always an option to consider if your goal is to acquire a capsule coffee maker that is as economical as possible.

The Essenza Mini coffee machine works just as well as the other Nespresso models, but logically it has some differences that we’ll see throughout this analysis.

New Nespresso Essenza Mini

At the end of the past 2017, Nespresso chose to renew its oldest model, and the old Nespresso Essenza was transformed into the Essenza Mini. It is a coffee maker with similar features and objectives to the Inissia, quite cheap for what is usual in Nespresso machines, and with an equally varied range of colours.

Its water tank is 0.6 litres, the same as the smaller coffee makers of its main rival – Dolce Gusto – and the colours it comes in are white, black and grey in the case of the Krups Essenza Mini, and red, white and green in the case of the Delonghi Essenza Mini.

The main feature of this Nespresso Essenza Mini is, without a doubt, its size: much smaller and more compact than ever. It is the perfect coffee maker for those who have little space in their kitchen.

Differences between Krups’ Nespresso Essenza and Delonghi’s Nespresso Essenza

The design of the new Essenza Mini coffee machine, as with its predecessor, varies if we opt for the one made by Krups or the one made by Delonghi. It is a peculiarity that does not happen with other Nespresso models.

Here below, you can see the -small- differences between the two. As you can see, Krups’ is more straight, and Delonghi’s Essenza Mini has a vaguely pyramidal shape.

It’s a question of pure aesthetics and also of insight since as there are different manufacturers, the products can also have different commercial margins in each store. Therefore you can find offers in the Krups that you don’t find in the Delonghi, and vice versa.

In the old version, this difference in appearance between the two Essenzas also happened, according to the manufacturer.

Nespresso Essenza Mini: How it works

If all Nespresso single-dose coffee machines are easy to use, the Nespresso Essenza Mini coffee machine will, of course, be no exception. Insert the capsule, select the coffee intensity (short or long), and in a few seconds, you have it in your cup. It’s a fundamental coffee maker, with all the positives and negatives that come with it.

However, some beneficial options are missing, which are present in other models of Nespresso coffee makers, such as the indicator light, which warns us if the tank is low on water, or the mobile or removable rack for placing larger cups. We remind you at this point that, although the Essenza does not have a built-in milk frother, you can use the Nespresso Aeroccino to enjoy freshly made cappuccinos or lattes.

Here you can download the Nespresso Essenza Mini user manual in case you have any questions about how it works.

Nespresso Essenza: Main features

  • The Nespresso Essenza coffee machine includes all the basic features of the other coffee machines of its brand:
  • 19 bar pressure and Thermoblock system thanks to which the drink comes out hot without having to wait more than a few seconds.
  • Water tank of 0.6 litres, which serves approximately four or five coffees.
  • We can choose between two predetermined coffee sizes: short and long. There are two buttons on the front of the machine for this purpose.
  • Automatic switch-off function after 9 minutes of inactivity.
  • Container to store up to 6 used capsules.
  • Automatic shut-off system, to save energy if the coffee maker is left on.
  • Approximate weight: 2.3 kilograms.
  • Dimensions: 11 x 32 x 20.5 cms.

Advantages of the Nespresso Essenza Mini

  • It’s the most economical of the Nespresso range, and the coffee comes out just as good as the rest.
  • Small size: it is a comfortable machine to place in any kitchen or corner of the house.
  • Two different designs for the same machine, two variants to choose from depending on the manufacturer (Krups or Delonghi).

Disadvantages of the Nespresso Essenza Mini

  • The metal grille on the front cannot be lifted (as in the Pixie) or removed (as in the Nespresso U range). If our favourite cup does not fit, there is no other solution than to choose another container for our coffee.
  • The capacity of the water tank is not a big deal.
  • There is also no indicator light for the capacity of the water tank.
  • It’s already starting to get old—one of the longest-lasting capsule coffee makers on the Spanish scene. We strongly recommend buying the Essenza Mini if you decide to purchase this model.

Nespresso Essenza Mini vs Inissia

Which is better? The Nespresso Essenza or the Inissia? These two models capture the attention of most of Nespresso’s public and customers because they are by far the two cheapest coffee makers from Nestlé.

However, the differences between the Nespresso Essenza Mini and the Inissia are apparent: one is Nespresso’s most extended-lasting machine, and the other is one of the newest. If you have the opportunity to choose and you find both for a similar price, we advise you to opt for the Inissia, as it is a much more modern machine.

How to use the Nespresso Essenza coffee machine

Before buying your Essenza coffee machine, we recommend you take a slow look at this video to see how the Nespresso Essenza is used. You will be able to see and learn everything you need to know about your new machine.

As you can see, the procedure is quite simple:

  • Make sure the water tank is full, and the coffee maker is on.
  • Wait a few seconds for the water to heat up.
  • Insert your capsule into the compartment.
  • Place a glass or cup under the spout of the brewer.
  • Press the desired button to make your coffee (long espresso or short espresso).

Problem: My Nespresso Essenza lights don’t stop flashing

If, after switching on your coffee machine, you see the two buttons (the long and short coffee buttons) light up and keep flashing, do not be alarmed. It doesn’t have to be a malfunction, and it happens to many people.

If your Essenza coffee maker lights don´t stop flashing, it’s because it’s in decalcification mode. In other words, it’s warning you to decalcify it. To prevent the buttons from flashing, press both at the same time and hold them down for 5 seconds.

If, by doing this, the buttons are still flashing, then maybe it is a fault. Most likely, you will need to change some fuses or capacitors on the electrical board (something we also explain here).

This “trick” can also be applied to other Nespresso models, such as the Inissia.

How to reset the Nespresso Essenza

Don’t know how to reset your Nespresso Essenza, a coffee maker? Well, don’t worry; it’s quite simple.

If you want to reset the Nespresso Essenza to the factory settings, follow the instructions in this video:

It comes in handy when you’re out of control when programming your Essenza (by touching the long or short espresso button settings) and need to return to the coffee machine’s default values.
