The Dolce Gusto Oblo, manufactured by Krups, was, together with the Jovia, the big bet of Dolce Gusto for the 2014 Christmas campaign. As will be the case in 2013 with the Mini-Me, autumn is a time when the big firms take advantage of it to launch their new products onto the market to exploit Christmas, and consumers should take advantage of this because of juicy offers and promotions usually accompany these launches.

So we are going to give you below our review of the Oblo coffee machine and its corresponding comparison with the other options in the Dolce Gusto line.

Let’s get to the point: Dolce Gusto Oblo is a coffee maker that attracts attention above all for its design, undoubtedly a Dolce Gusto brand. It’s like a Circolo, but with a square exterior housing.

Aesthetically it is beautiful, although we think it is perhaps too big (especially in width) for the real capacity it has, especially the water tank.

Like all Dolce Gusto coffee machines, the Dolce Gusto Oblo comes in an exciting range of colours which makes it even more attractive to buy and allows it to fit in perfectly with any decor in our kitchen or room where we are going to use it.

What is your favourite Oblo coffee maker? In our opinion, the Dolce Gusto Oblo could have been used to innovate a little more in the traditional colour range of Dolce Gusto coffee machines.

Functionally, the Dolce Gusto Oblo does not introduce any significant new features into the Dolce Gusto range. It is a manual model (it does not have an automatic version), which means that you must activate and stop the preparation of the coffee yourself to obtain the length and intensity that you want in your drink.

Another option is to use an app that helps you automate this process, such as the well-known DGTimer. We see that the Oblo has a little lever on top, which allows us to choose between hot or cold water, the removable tray and water tank, and a little more.

It is as simple and easy to use as the other Dolce Gusto coffee machines. The same mechanism is also for inserting and ejecting the capsules from the coffee maker. Still, if you want to take a look at its user manual, here you can download it as a PDF:

Dolce Gusto Oblo Coffee Machine: Prices

The price of the Dolce Gusto Oblo is another of its strong points without a doubt. The launch offer on Amazon is only 32 Pounds, and it is well worth taking advantage of it because, after its launch more than 5 years ago, it will no longer be a novelty product and may become more expensive. The official price in stores was up to 89 Pounds at the time of the launch.

NOTE: Back in Christmas 2014, the price of the Dolce Gusto Oblo was reduced on Amazon to 45 Pounds (Dolce Gusto Oblo and Jovia for 45 Pounds). With the pass of the years, there have been offers and promotions of the Dolce Gusto Oblo up to date for 32 pounds in 2021, so don’t miss out on details because you never know when they might be repeated.

Dolce Gusto Oblo – Main Features

Buying a Dolce Gusto Oblo is a safe bet because, as with all Dolce Gusto coffee machines, simplicity and the absence of strange functions are its hallmarks. You know what you are going to find beforehand, with its advantages and disadvantages. Here is a summary list of the essential features of the Oblo coffee maker.

  • Its approximate dimensions are 39 x 30 x 21 cms.
  • It weighs about 3 Kgs.
  • The water tank has a capacity of 0.8 litres and is removable (you can see this separately from the coffee maker in the photo below).
  • The anti-drip tray is also removable. It is effortless to clean. We can also adjust its height to use all kinds of cups or glasses.
  • It is a manual Dolce Gusto coffee maker; the Oblo does not currently have an automatic model.
  • The on/off switch lights up in orange when the machine needs to be decalcified.
  • The pressure pump is 15 bar.
  • We can prepare hot or cold drinks.
  • It distributes a power of 1500 watts.

Advantages of the Dolce Gusto Oblo

  • Its price is very competitive.
  • Together with the Circolo, it is perhaps the most attractive coffee machine design launched by Dolce Gusto, at least until its appearance on the market.
  • The novelty introduced by Dolce Gusto using the orange colour on the switch to warn of decalcification is quite useful.

Disadvantages of the Dolce Gusto Oblo

  • It is manual, which forces us to be very careful about when to stop the preparation of the drink.
  • The tank is a bit scarce: only 0.8 litres.
  • It is a bit bulky, except in-depth that it has little and this size is not matched to a large tank but only fulfils an aesthetic function.

Dolce Gusto Oblo vs Mini Me

The comparison of the Dolce Gusto Oblo vs the Mini-Me is the most sought-after among buyers since they are two machines with a similar profile: small, cheap and manually operated.

Broadly speaking, the Mini-Me is smaller, while the Oblo has a slightly larger tank. As far as colours and design are concerned, we leave it up to you to decide.

On Youtube, we have found this comparison, where you can see them side by side.

Dolce Gusto Oblo – How to Use It

You’re not going to buy anything without first watching a complete video to see how the Dolce Gusto Oblo works, are you? It’s essential to see it in action to form your own opinion of Krups’ Oblo. That’s why here we offer you the complete review we’ve found on this machine so that you understand from the first minute how the Dolce Gusto Oblo works.

If you’ve driven a capsule coffee machine before or any other Dolce Gusto model, then you’ll have it all done because the operation is very similar.

Is the Dolce Gusto Oblo automatic?

No, it is not. That’s why it’s so cheap. It’s a manual flow coffee maker, which means that you have to start it up (water flow) but also stops it at the moment you consider convenient. If you don’t watch out, your cup will eventually overflow.

Why buy a Dolce Gusto Oblo Coffee maker?

There is something for everyone, but within the Dolce Gusto range, it is not easy to find a manual coffee maker as beautiful and as economical as this one. The Oblo is decorative, modern, and has the advantage of still being one of the most recent models. It is also quite competitively priced, which does not put it far from other much older Dolce Gusto models.

It is no coincidence, therefore, that it has become one of the most successful and best-selling coffee machines of its brand in the few years it has been on the market.

As alternatives, indeed, they are not nearly as lovely, although they have very similar features, you can look at the Piccolo or the Mini-Me. Both are also manual but with a price already much lower than this Oblo, much newer.
