When we look at the Delonghi Alicia, memories of Italian coffee machines of all times come immediately to mind. Its lines, edges and the shape of its two pieces keep intact the aroma of traditional coffee machines. There is only one detail that takes us back to our time and reminds us that, in spite of everything, this Delonghi Alicia is still a modern coffee machine.

We are referring to the electric bass, which is operated manually and allows us to heat our Delonghi Alicia and prepare the coffee anywhere, even if we do not have a kitchen or a cooker at hand. The Delonghi Alicia Moka has no wires but is attached to a separate base (as if it were a mobile phone charger) which is actually connected to the mains when you want to heat the water to prepare the coffee.

Once the preparation is finished, you can remove the coffee maker from the base. The Moka will disconnect itself (don’t worry about the temperature, though, because the Delonghi Alicia can keep the coffee hot for about 30 minutes).

The Delonghi Alicia has the capacity to prepare 3 or 6 cups of espresso. The normal filter can hold three cups, but there is a special adapter to be able to make twice as much. We particularly liked the detail of the transparent upper body (where the coffee goes up), as well as the inevitable coatings on the handle and the base of the coffee machine to avoid burning ourselves when handling it.

In short, the Delonghi Alicia is one of the simplest and most affordable options that we can find among Italian coffee machines with electric bass.

Delonghi Alicia: main features

  • It has an electric base that plugs into the mains and allows the water to be heated without the need to put it on the fire.
  • Aluminium boiler.
  • Automatic shut-off function with two safety levels: the coffee machine turns itself off when you take the moka away from its base, and also when the preparation has finished.  This helps to prevent overheating of our drink.
  • The Delonghi Alicia keeps the coffee hot for 30 minutes after it has been switched off.
  • Transparent coffee container and top cover, to control in detail the preparation of the coffee.
  • Independent base: the Delonghi Alicia has no wires but is connected to the electric base separately. In addition, the base is 360° rotatable.
  • Includes pressurized safety valve.
  • Both the base and the handle of the Delonghi Alicia are heat resistant.
  • You can prepare 3 or 6 cups of coffee, using the special 6-cup adapter.
  • Pilot light indicates whether the coffee maker is switched on or off.
  • Dimensions: 12 x 18 x 27 centimetres.
  • Power: 450 watts.

Advantages of the Delonghi Alicia

  • Having an electric base makes us more comfortable, cleaner and safer. We do not depend on the cooker.
  • Transparent bodies allow us to follow the coffee preparation process very closely.
  • The coffee machine is independent of the base, and has no cables.

Disadvantages of the Delonghi Alicia

  • The lower body (tank where the water is heated) is made of aluminium, not stainless steel.
  • The handle may be a little short, if our hand is big we may have some difficulty in handling the coffee maker. It is all about getting used to it.

Why buy a Delonghi Alicia?

Nowadays, if we want to have a simple Italian coffee machine at home to prepare espressos, the best thing is to buy one with electric bass. Times have changed, and the advantages of Mokas with an electric base are enormous compared to the old Italian metal coffee machines. Within this group of Italian coffee machines electric, the Delonghi Alicia is one of the most economical options.

It has the same features as other more expensive models, such as the Graef EM80 or the Bialetti Easy Timer. Still, the essential difference is that it is not made of stainless steel, and this allows it to reduce costs significantly.
