Christmas is an ideal time to buy those appliances that we need at home. Also, to make an elegant gift to a loved one, or why not, to give us a little treat in the form of a capsule coffee maker.
Shopping speeds up at this time of year, and we want to help you clarify your ideas a little when buying capsule coffee machines. If you don’t know the market very well, you probably have more than one doubt. You presumably have heard a thousand stories about its advantages, drawbacks, why we have to buy them or why not.
Capsule coffee makers are more expensive than a conventional espresso machine (in the long run). And they don’t allow you to use the coffee you want with them but their brand, which is already encapsulated. See the following article: How much does a capsule coffee maker cost per year?
But in our view, there are also several powerful reasons why it is very interesting to buy a capsule coffee machine.
Reasons to buy a capsule coffee machine
I’m sure everyone will have their own, but broadly speaking (and based on our knowledge of the market), these are the main reasons to buy a pod coffee machine today.
The coffee in an espresso machine can be more customisable. However, many people get up at 7 a.m. to go to work or take the children to school in a rush, and the last thing they need is to lose time preparing a coffee.
Take out the packet of coffee, pour it into the filter, press it, adjust the arm on the coffee machine, set the parameters you want to customise, switch it on, empty the coffee filter or clean it afterwards; it is much more practical to leave the capsule in the capsule the night before, and in the morning, when you get to the kitchen, switch on the coffee machine, press a button and you have your coffee in your cup.
No one can deny the benefits that an espresso machine offers in preparing beverages. Special filters for cream, constant and adjusted temperature, you can adjust each step of elaborating your coffee almost to your taste.
But after preparing your coffee, all this has a price in the form of dirt. Not all users are willing to have to rinse and clean each component carefully after each use.
A capsule coffee maker, in this sense, is much more practical. It also needs maintenance and cleaning, but much less frequently and much more straightforward.
After making a coffee, you have to worry about throwing the used capsule in the trash. The decalcification processes are common to both capsule and espresso machines, so you will never get rid of that!
3- Coffee quality: These coffee machines make a great coffee
Espresso machines make excellent coffee and are always to your taste selection. There is no doubt about that, but sometimes it seems that the comparison is reduced to:
“capsules -> more comfortable -> worse coffee” or “espresso machines -> more cumbersome -> better coffee”.
And nothing could be further from the truth! There are super-automatic espresso machines whose simplicity and ease of use are similar to any capsule coffee maker.
On the other hand, the coffee from capsule coffee makers has nothing to envy any ground coffee — especially the renowned Nespresso Grand Crus or the prestigious brands used by Tassimo.
You will also enjoy an excellent coffee with a capsule coffee maker, yes or yes. Get out of the clichés!
4- Variety of preparations
Capsule coffee machines allow you to enjoy multiple types of coffee and chocolates, mixed drinks or infusions with the same ease, in the same machine and with the same process (you only have to introduce the right capsule).
You can also enjoy delicious preparations such as Lattes Machiattos with vanilla or caramel flavour, cappuccinos or Mokas. You could not prepare with an espresso machine unless you were a professional barista and devoted enough time to work.
Note this only happens with the Dolce Gusto and Tassimo coffee makers.
As is the case with many people, if your kitchen is small, you are interested in a compact coffee maker that does not become a hindrance.
If you are one of those who cannot have dozens of kitchen appliances everywhere, you can store this type of coffee machine just after preparing your coffee.
Please don’t deny it: capsule coffee makers are much prettier, more colourful, cheerful, and look better anywhere than a traditional espresso machine.
If you don’t believe it, take a look at this list of retro-style coffee makers that will leave you with your mouth open.
Of course, there will always be those who think that a coffee maker is for making coffee and nothing else and that all other aspects are secondary. But the sales statistics say the opposite.
So, with all that we said, the decision is up to you. You are free to choose to buy a capsule coffee maker or an express coffee maker (manual or automatic), but before you decide, make sure you make an informed decision by reading posts like this one.
